Call for Annual Crane Count 2018

Event Details

Date : Saturday 1st September 2018

You can help with a day count of the birds feeding in the fields from midday to 2pm and/or then a roost count in the late afternoon. You do not have to be an expert birder to participate and enjoy this event.

Day Count:
We divide the tablelands into prescribed routes. We need to get all the routes covered so please let me know if you are interested in taking part. We will give you a map and a record form. The importance of this data is to see if the numbers feeding is similar to those roosting and to see which crops are most important for the cranes.

Afternoon Roost Count:
Meet at Hastie's Swamp bird hide at 3pm to be assigned your roost. The meeting is essential to learn how best to complete the record forms. Also, please let us know that you are coming so that we can plan in advance.

Dinner, results and an entertaining speaker:
Meet at the Malanda Hotel, 7pm for dinner. We will count the cranes and compare the results.

RSVP CONTACT : The COUNT is being organized by David & Margaret Merrall. Phone 0448 055 077 to register for the 22nd Crane Count.
