20 years ago we didn't have a regional group in NQ and I was asked to run the Congress and Campout off my own bat. We concentrated on Bowerbirds for the Congress proceedings and then went to a pastoral station called Silver Plains on Cape York for the Campout. Whilst we were there we did a series of formal bird surveys by recording all the birds heard and seen from 24 fixed points in different habitats.
The area is now within the Kulla Land Trust. I am negotiating with the Trust for permission to return and repeat the surveys. The dates are to arrive by 14th October for not less than one week and not more than two weeks. It is a days drive from Cairns and 4WD is required..
Should we be unable to go to Silver Plains I will convert the trip into a search for Fawn-breasted Bowerbirds throughout the Cape.
