About the event

Shorebird monitoring on the Cairns Esplanade: a history, and where we can go from here

Presented by guest speakers Sally Sheldon and Paul Fisk

The Cairns Esplanade has long held a national – even international – reputation as a quality shorebird-watching location, enjoyed by amateur and professional birders alike. In this talk, we take a look at the history of shorebird monitoring efforts that have used the Esplanade: who has been involved, how far back do the records go, and what do they tell us? We explain how we are currently using this understanding to inform the way we monitor shorebirds at the Esplanade, and what we hope to achieve going forward.
