About the event
Call for volunteers
We are resuming our annual grasswren surveys this year, after COVID-19 forced us to pause them last year.
Starting on 10 May, we will gather on a property just outside of Mount Isa to begin our surveys for Carpentarian and Kalkadoon Grasswrens. After some training and orientation, we will divide into groups and travel through two properties, now critical to the ongoing survival of these species. We will then spend 2–3 weeks in 'grasswren country', exploring the spinifex-clad hills. The country is beautiful, birds enchanting, and the company outstanding. If you have a sense of adventure, enjoy outback camping along with good birding – then you will find these surveys are just what you are looking for!
We camp on the stations and travel over station tracks, so a 4WD is a must. However, we sometimes have spare seats among those with vehicles. We are able to cover fuel costs for those volunteering.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact me at crabplover@westnet.com.au or phone 0478 641 987 and I’ll supply more details. I look forward to hearing from you!
